About the Position: This position is located with the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP), Directorate of Engineering and Public Works in McAlester, Oklahoma. MCAAP was originally commissioned as the Naval Ammunition Depot McAlester on May 20, 1943 and began its first production in September 1943. In October 1977, the naval facility was transferred to the Army under the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition Act. MCAAP is a government-owned/government-operated facility. Our operating hours are from 6:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. We are closed on federal holidays. The mission of MCAAP is to produce and renovate quality conventional missile ammunition and ammunition-related components, perform engineering and product assurance in support of production, and receive, store, ship, demilitarize and dispose of conventional and missile ammunition and related items.

This position is a TERM position not to exceed 1 Year and 1 Day. It is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of four years.
Assist journeyman level mechanics with the installation, repair, maintaining, and adjusting of fixed and semi-fixed equipment and machinery.
Use various portable machines and hand tools to repair and install equipment and machinery.
Bolts down parts and accessories to foundations, installs, and repairs foundations for operating machinery, and connects the steam lines, hydraulic lines, air hose couplings, fuel lines, lubrication systems, and any other power source prior to operation.
Use a variety of test equipment and measuring devices for troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment and machinery.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Effort:
Average weights handling are 40 pounds. Hoists, dollies, and cranes are available for use with heavy objects. Considerable standing, stooping, crawling, and working in strained or awkward positions is required. You must have good coordination and balance in working around machinery while in operations.
Working Conditions:
Most of the work is performed indoors. Uncomfortable conditions exist such as noise, dirt, grease, vibrations, poor ventilation, and unpleasant odors. Employee is subjected to explosive hazards while working on production equipment while explosive operations are in progress, subjected to the hazards of moving machinery, and exposed to the possibility to cuts, bruises, burns, and scrapes.
