About the Position: This position is at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP), Directorate of Engineering and Public Works, located in McAlester, Oklahoma. MCAAP was originally commissioned as the Naval Ammunition Depot McAlester on May 20, 1943 and began its first production in September 1943. In October 1977 the naval facility was transferred to the Army under the Single Manager for Conventional Ammunition act. Red River Munitions Center (Red River, Texas) was transferred to MCAAP in October 1999. MCAAP is a government-owned/government-operated facility. Our operating hours are from 6:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. We are closed on federal holidays. The mission of MCAAP is to produce and renovate quality conventional missile ammunition and ammunition-related components, perform engineering and product assurance in support of production, and receive, store, ship, demilitarize and dispose of conventional and missile ammunition and related items.

Operates one or more various make, type and size boom cranes such as crawler truck, wagon and/or rail mounted in performing a variety of operations, requiring skill in performing difficult operations where maneuverability is restricted and accuracy critical.
Work involved in the operation of cranes is to lift, transport, and position materials; to dig and move earth or other materials; to drive pilings; or to destroy obsolete structures, using attachments such as hooks, clamshell buckets, dragline buckets, magnets, and other special material-handling devices.
Operate gasoline and diesel powered equipment such as graders, bulldozers, front end loaders, backhoes, trackhoes, and vehicles up to 20 ton capacity. Perform preventive maintenance checks on cranes and engineering equipment being operated.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Screen Out Element: Ability to perform the duties of the Crane Operator, WG-5725-11, without more than normal supervision.
Physical effort: Exerts heavy effort in pushing, pulling, and depressing the various levers, clutches, and brakes. Is subject to strain caused by vibrations of the crane, and from the jerking and jolting motions while lifting and moving loads. Occasionally moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds, e.g., lifting hooks and cables, changing rigging, setting outriggers, etc.
Working Conditions: Work is performed outside during periods of extreme heat and cold from a cab generally open on one side for clear vision and ventilation, and in areas which are noisy, dirty, and subject to fumes, occasional disagreeable dust, and inadequate heating or cooling. There is the possibility of injury from swing loads, moving machinery, crane overturning, and breakage of cables.
